About MEDIC – Medical Engineering & Innovation Centre
MEDIC is a multi-disciplinary center supported by the Department of Biotechnology, India. It is in the Rahul Bajaj innovation center at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, Mumbai, India. The center is internally supported by affiliated by innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem at IIT Bombay, which includes the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering, Society for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SINE), Desai Sethi School of Entrepreneurship, Biomedical Engineering and Technology Innovation Centre (BETIC), Wadhwani Research Centre for Bioengineering, and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay Alumni and Corporate Affairs. The center also has affiliations with our clinical partners, such as Grant Medical College and JJ Hospital Mumbai.
About the Program
The MEDIC fellowship program at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay is a unique world-class program to train future leaders in the biomedical sector. It will support them in translating their ideas into commercial products. Each year, a cohort of ten candidates from Science, Engineering, and medicine will be trained in relevant knowledge, skillsets, and mindset. It aims to create next-generation healthcare innovation leaders. It will bring together the brightest minds in design, medicine, engineering and research to work towards identifying, creating and building new and scalable healthcare businesses for unmet public health needs of India, through start-ups. The fellows will learn and apply a structured med-tech innovation process to identify unmet clinical needs, brainstorm and develop new and innovative solutions to address these needs.
The diverse domains of selected fellows will be trained via a rigorous curriculum, including hands-on experience in developing biomedical devices along with face-to-face interaction with multiple stakeholders. During the program, the fellows will get the opportunity to understand the basics of end-to-end product development and the necessary skills to bring their products to the market. The selected candidates are required to take courses such as Medical Device Design and Innovation, Medical Device Fundamentals, Development and Creation of Proof-of Concept, and Proof-of-Concept to Prototype. Then they will get exposure to intense clinical immersion with collaborative hospitals to identify their unmet needs. The final stage is developing the concept, design, validation, and prototyping.
The selected candidate will also be trained on insights into Regulatory aspects, Intellectual Property Rights, business plan development, and strategies for marketing which are essential for taking the product to market. The Fellows have access to the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering (BSBE) research labs at IIT Bombay. After the journey of one year, the fellows have to present their work in front of jury members consisting of eminent clinicians, hospital managers, and VCs, among others.

Eligibility Criteria
- Science: Engineering (M.Tech.) / M.Pharma/Ph.D. in Life Sciences and related fields.
OR - Medicine: MBBS/BVSc/MD/PhD
OR - Design: M.Des.
OR - Business: MBA with Life Sciences or Engineering
- Minimum Two years of prior work experience related to medical discipline of our mentioned thrust areas on website.

Application Process & Guidelines
Documents to be kept handy before filling up the online application: (all the documents should be in pdf format):
- A soft copy of your passport size photo and signature (jpeg/jpg/png format)
- A comprehensive CV containing details of qualification, positions held, professional experience/distinction etc.
- Matriculation Certificate (equivalent to 10th Standard)/ Mark sheet.
- Intermediate certificate (equivalent to 12th Standard)/Mark sheet.
- Graduation/Diploma degree certificate/mark sheet.
- Post-Graduation degree/diploma (minimum duration 2 years) certificate and mark sheet (if applicable).

- A “Statement of Purpose” in 1000 words in word/pdf format, describing aspiration of the candidate in the technology innovation.
- There is NO application fee for any category.

- On successful submission of application, an auto-generated email containing the reference number will be sent to the email address provided. Please keep a note of the reference number for the future.
- Candidates are required to keep a printout of the online application form by using the print button on the dashboard for future reference.
- Candidates must ensure that he/she fulfils all the eligibility criteria as stipulated in the advertisement. If it is found that he /she does not fulfil the stipulated criteria during the recruitment process, the candidature of the candidate will be cancelled. If the same is noticed after the appointment, the candidates will be terminated following due process.

Who can apply for MEDIC program?
Anyone with a minimum of two years of experience in translational research, irrespective of their background. The broad exposure to the development and fabrication of diagnostic devices will open the door for your application in our organization.
Can I apply for multiple thrust areas?
Yes, you can apply for multiple thrust areas of our organization until you have done prior work in the specific disciplines.
